I am thinking of your Uncle Augie dearest,sweet, guardian angel mommy.
Saying a prayer of gratefulness this memorial weekend for the many who have been willing to pay a great price for our freedom.
This service of love and sacrifice on behalf of all people, points directly to the greatest love of all, the very gift and sacrifice of Christ.
We know, Lord Daddy, that ultimate peace will not come until your kingdom is here in all of its fullness. Nevertheless, we pray for a foretaste of the future. We ask for the growth of peace throughout our world today, so that fewer and fewer men and women will have to risk and even to sacrifice their lives. We long for the day when people will “beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more”-Isaiah 2:4.
We are to fight the good fight, put on the armor of God, and serve as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. When we remember the sacrifice, single-minded dedication, and discipline involved in the life of a soldier, we are calling to mind what we are supposed to be like as Christians in service to Christ.
All praise be to you, God of grace, God of mercy, God of justice, God of peace, King of kings, and Lord of lords! Amen.
